I'm going over some cards that were slightly changed
in the Lotus environment and it's bringing up some
questions about how I should play certain cards.
One such card is this personality, Togashi ... |

Yes. Check the 'keyword' rule (although here it is
written in the traits so the rule is not relevant).

Snow Crane Tattoo (Honor:2) Kuji Apr 28 12:04:49 [Deck]

Does the personality have to be in the duel in order
to use it's ability, or can it raise the focus value
of any duel, even if the tattooed person is not in the
duel themselves? Also, if this is the case, can multiple
snow crane people help out in a duel? And if so, that
is off the hook. This has just been brought to my attention
very recently... |

No, the person with the SCT does NOT need to be in the
duel, and, yes, you may affect a card more than once
if you have 2+ SCTs in play. |

absolutely ridiculous. Anybody else think this
is kind of broken then? It's not like I don't play them

SCT was REALLY broken pre-errata, when it increased
the FV of a card used for ANY purpose: dueling, Tactician,
Gambling House, etc.
Since it's a Tattoo, it is, by definition, a niche
card-- not something that everyone can easily run.
It doesn't even show up in that many decks on the Dragon
list these days.
Contrast this with, say, Overwhelmed, and we're
much closer to my definition of "broken." |

While it's not overtly powerful, it changes the face
of duels completley-this is a huge revelation for
me. When I say it's broken, I mean that it really doesn't
make any sense how this tattoo could work...I could
see it adjusting the focus for the dueler by making
him or her more skillful/graceful in a duel...I don't
see how it could change the outcome of a duel that doesn't
involve that personality, let alone one that doesnt
even involve any of your personallities. Multiple
uses of this ability in one duel makes this tattoo
one of the best dueling cards possible....all three
SCT out on the table is almost like having 3 possible
'strike with no thought'. It's what a tiger tattoo
was trying to be, and even then...tiger tattoo had
the painful stipulation of no weapons. The only bad
thing about a SCT is you can't run Crane Tattoos...big
whoop. Besides SCT, People only run Dragon Tattoos
anyway.
But you are right, it is a niche card. But there are other
niche cards that are really broken. Utaku Yu-Pan
for example. Only good in a Battle Maiden deck...actually
better than good... she is crazy excellent. I can't
belive her Gold cost in contrast to her ability and
PH. 4 PH is amazing for any personality...one that
costs 6 gold is unheard of. But I'm not complaining
about that either. I run her in my deck as well :) I'm
just saying that even though a card may be really good
in under a certain deck type, they are just a little
too good for the spirit of the game. I think these two
cards overstep their boundaries of balance...but
don't 'break the game.' I probably used the term 'broken'
too loosely. They definitely need tweeking though.
I doubt either of them will make it ... |

I agree, tattoos have their uses and definitely their
limits. Dragon decks in general are kind of difficult
to put together for the simple fact that they have
no true focus but are above average in everything,
including calvary. Iron Mountain renders it useless
and Hoshi is the biggest calvary manbeast in the game.
:) These days they have a bit more force, Mirumoto
duelers are on par with kakita duelers, Togashi and
Hoshi are enlightened enough for a possible elemental
victory, Tamori magic is right up there with shiba
magic, and Hitomi back them all up in these aspects.
Dragon can get lost in all of this, but the one thing
that remains their own are the tattoos. And really,
it's not a focus, it is a back up. So I agree, when I build
a deck it only involves necessary tattoos. I think
6 Tattoos should be in a deck at the most. 3 of which
are most likely dragon tattoos. The other 3 should
help you in your focus.
Tattoos are wicked, but like people have been saying, they
aren't necessary these days. So what does that leave
us in diamond? I've read on other forums that the design
team are trying to tinker with that now (if not already
figured out what to do with them). I get the feeling
that Snow Crane Tattoos are too good to make the diamond
cut list. It's a shame. If Iron Mountain doesn't make
the diamond cut list, then I belive tattoos will be
taking a back seat to some other type of back up for
dragon. I'm guessing it will be more item based for
the double sword wielding samurai of the Mirumoto.
They may even be pushed in the direction of the brotherhood...'the
enlightenment faction.' I'm seeing a lot more cards
geared towards that sort of thing lately. It's hard
to ... |

Dragon, going into Diamond (Honor:4) Yuzan Apr 29 15:17:25 [General]
|
|
|

I've heard a couple of different things RE: what the
design team has in store for the Dragon Clan. One is,
as you mention it, monks & enlightenment. The other,
I believe is Dragon as the primary "switch" faction--
that is, building decks that are able to pursue multiple
victory conditions, and flow toward whichever one
works best against each opponent. dragon's always
done Honor pretty well, but I'm glad to see steps toward
making military more feasible. In particular, I
think that Togashi Kansuke is a key "switch" Personality:
great stats, boxable HR, PH 2.
As far as the clan's current strengths, I think the
2 newest SHs do a great job of exhibiting Dragon flexibility,
being prepared for anything. Shiro Mir.'s enhanced
drawing ability greatly increases the odds that
you will have what you need at the right time. Shiro
Tam. is its "opposite"-- instead of seeing more cards,
it instead ensures that no card in your deck is ever
completely useless.
Enjoying the discussion, even if I lost track of exactly
where it was going. ;) |

oooo...this whole discussion has inspired me to
write up a little something. For some reason I've
given diamond legal a lot of thought, mainly because
I just got back in the game and sinking tons of money
into cards that are going to be useless soon, I'm going
to stockpile on good cards I know that will be very
useful... Personally I long for the days of 30/30,
cut throat, open, but for some reason gold legal caught
my fancy. Diamond will be even more intereting...since
it's how tournaments will be played. When I have a
little bit more time, I'll post my thoughts about
clans in diamond. Dragon, is one of my favorites and
i'm glad the focus is on them :)
